Fuel Duty Increase affects Fleet costs.
21st Mar 2012
George Osborne has announced that the planned Fuel Duty rise of 3p per litre will apply from August this year. This will mean that a typical HGV will cost between £1,200-£1,400 more in fuel per annum. This will undoubtedly see more established hauliers going to the wall. However all is not lost, whilst tax rises are unavoidable companies can still chose to manage their fuel usage in more efficient ways. Users of Plant i HGV Check + CANbus Telemetry typically reduce their fuel spend by 7%-15% in some cases more.
Plant-i Managing Director Sam Browne said “ although the rise was known about, many thought it may at the very least have been deferred in the budget until the economy is more stable”
Hauliers are now facing even greater pressure to reduce costs wherever possible, the thought of implementing new technologies may seem daunting, but it isn’t...... It is surprisingly easy to reduce fuel bills, which may just help soften the blow come August.

Komatsu PC130 recovered
20th Mar 2012
Plant i have seen an increase in plant theft after an increase pre Christmas then a drop off in January and February.
Managing Director Sam Browne says "We notice trends in plant theft, we had a massive increase in telehandler theft last year, this is also a popular target for the organised crime gangs who steel to order. The majority of these machines were shipped overseas. We then saw an increase in Mini diggers and tractor theft pre Christmas. We are now seeing a trend towards larger 360 excavators with plant prices ever increasing"
"We are proud to continue our work with crime prevention police departments and our recovery rate is still the by far the best in the plant tracking industry, This is not rocket science it is simply because of our attention to details, our 13 years in the plant industry and the fact we care with 24/7 accessibility".

Plant-i has introduced CPC / SAFED Driver Training
14th Feb 2012
Plant-i has introduced CPC / SAFED Driver Training as an option with our award winning HGVCheck+ Telematics Solution.Sam Browne (Managing Director) said “By using our team of fully qualified HGV Driving Instructors alongside Plant-i’s HGVCheck+ Telematics CANbus Solution, we are able to clearly demonstrate just how much less fuel a vehicle will use when driven efficiently, thus creating a measured benchmark for the driver to achieve on a permanent basis”
Recent projects in Wales have shown astonishing improvements in fuel economy, with some drivers reducing fuel usage by over 20%, saving the fleet money, reducing workshop costs and improving driver standards.
Plant-i HGV Instructor Jim said “One of the key issues is that many drivers do not know how to drive their vehicle the way it is intended to be driven, vehicles today are not the same as they were 15-20 years ago and need to be driven according to type and role. The issues are highlighted by HGVCheck+ telematics but often the resources to correct the problems are not available in house”
When technology and management are combined correctly you really can measure, manage and maintain optimum efficiency and therefore reduce fuel usage and increase profitability. For further information on how Plant-i can optimise your efficiency email info@plant-i.co.uk
