Machynlleth firm lands fleet telematics contract worth £2m

Machynlleth-based Plant-i Ltd, which celebrates its 10th birthday this year, expects to  create three new jobs by the end of this year as a result of  the additional work and other  new contracts secured by the company.

Telematics refers to any  device which merges  telecommunications and infomatics such as GPS  navigation.

Plant i Ltd provides vehicle  tracking, fleet telematics, risk management and security solutions for all fleet vehicles including plant, assets, trailers,  staff, HGV’s, and vans.

Since December, the  company has tripled the size of its offices on Dyfi Eco Park  and has also taken on six new  staff, growing the workforce to  14.

The company has also recently invested £100,000, aided by a £20,000 Welsh Government grant, to develop its own new database and website portal using the latest generation technology.

“Having our own database will improve overheads and control, enable us to deliver bespoke applications very quickly and open up new  markets for the company,” said managing director Sam  Browne.

Plant-i is soon to launch a new consumer product that will enable the purchaser to track their vehicle, asset or even a person.

The company plans to sell  the new product, which is ideal for motorhomes, touring  caravans, powerboats and quad  bikes, with a competitive one off cost of £200 fitted and no monthly follow on fee for the first year.
